Will Greaves is a nationally recognized scholar and academic leader, award-winning teacher and researcher, and active community member and local dad in his home of Victoria, BC. Will is an associate professor at the University of Victoria, where his research focuses on climate change, security, and Arctic politics. He has written more than thirty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and three books: One Arctic: The Arctic Council and Circumpolar Governance (2017), Breaking Through: Understanding Sovereignty and Security in the Circumpolar Arctic (2021), and Canadian Ecopolitics (2025). Will leads the climate and security activities of three national research networks on Canadian security and defence, is a co-founder of the Climate Security Association of Canada, and serves on the Defence Advisory Board to Canada’s Department of National Defence.

The proud son and grandson of diplomats in Canada’s foreign service, Will has been passionate about history and politics from a young age. He completed a BA (Honours) at Bishop’s University, an MA in Political Science at the University of Calgary, and a PhD in International Relations and Canadian Politics at the University of Toronto. Will lives with his wife and daughter in a quiet community in southern Vancouver Island on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples. Will is active in his community and serves as secretary of his strata council and as a member of the Capital Regional District (CRD) Arts Advisory Council. In his spare time, he likes to bike, cook, sauna, and walk his dog in the woods.
